New test:
ADIPONECTIN, the new cardiac marker.
Adiponectin (APN) is a protein hormone
that is synthesized by adipocytes (fat cells) that
regulates the metabolism of lipids (fat) and glucose.
Adiponectin influences the body’s response to insulin
and has anti-inflammatory effects on the cells lining
the walls of blood vessels. High blood levels of
adiponectin are associated with decreased risks of heart
attacks. Low levels are found in people with type 2
diabetes and obesity.
